Leverage collaboration with bespoke life extension and repurposing companies

Life extension and repurposing of products are possible through different routes. Think re-use, refurbish, repair and remanufacturing, ReX for short. For product manufacturers, this is a difficult story. Because their processes are optimised to make and sell new products. Taking back and processing used products consists of a whole number of new, mostly manual steps for which they are not equipped. For example, dismantling, sorting and cleaning. Bespoke companies can perform those sub-activities perfectly.

Bringing in bespoke companies for ReX
In practice, we see that such collaborations do not easily get off the ground. Makers and custom-made companies come up against various bottlenecks such as liability, setting up a revenue model with cost-benefit sharing, building and strengthening trust, dealing with a variable influx of products ... Living lab Remanumaat wants to eliminate those bottlenecks and be a lever for more and a higher effectiveness of collaboration.

From searching to testing in production logistics
In Remanumaat, Sirris looks for concrete ways to solve those bottlenecks. Every solution is tested. To facilitate that process, Sirris deploys concepts and technologies such as decision support, adapted forms of collaboration and operator support. Each developed solution is validated for an ecosystem between conTeyor International and customisation company Ryhove around the ReX of reusable packaging for production logistics.

ReX accelerated rollout
The results will be translated into 5 other ecosystems between companies and customisation companies, all in the sector of products such as mechanical and mechatronic systems that have high ReX potential. This will accelerate the introduction and roll-out of ReX in the manufacturing industry, and help make it resilient and circular with a reduced materials and carbon footprint .
