Who steers what at Flanders Circular?
ATF, a road construction company in the port of Antwerp, wants to make all projects more sustainable and focus on social economy. As a construction company, they do so by working with aggregates, the grains created by crushing rubble from demolition and excavated soil. Those aggregates and sands are recycled and given a high-quality new life in, for example, lean concrete or stabiliser.
To reduce transport, ATF uses an electrically powered mobile concrete plant for this purpose. In addition, by doing the production on site, the recycled materials are also used more highly and production surplus is avoided.
As there are both technical and practical challenges, ATF will work with the Excavation Centre for Road Construction to determine the applications, compositions, workability and performance requirements of the paved concrete and take measures based on these. In the process, they will write the additional technical guidelines for this specific application and monitor the sustainability aspects and positive environmental impact.
A monthly update on the project can be followed via the website www.atf.be.
