Who steers what at Flanders Circular?
In today's context, the ICT sector accounts for three to six per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions. Based in Beringen, Out of Use stands out as a leading IT company focusing exclusively on the management and treatment of electronic waste (e-waste) for businesses.
What makes Out of Use unique is not only their expertise in handling 10,000 tonnes of e-waste, but also their commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability. Customers have the option to donate their fee from the stream to Natuurpunt, which has already led to the planting of more than 100,000 m² of forest. These donations not only illustrate nature conservation, but also demonstrate Out of Use's social responsibility.
Out of Use prefers reuse to recycling as a more sustainable approach to e-waste. This focus has not only led to the avoidance of 96,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions from e-waste disposal, but also to a significant contribution to reducing the ICT sector's carbon footprint.
With their efforts in e-waste disposal and preference for reuse as a sustainable practice, Out of Use demonstrates that it is possible to take responsibility for the impact of electronic waste. This makes them an inspiration not only for the ICT industry, but also for other sectors striving for a greener future. For companies looking to embrace both environmental conservation and social responsibility, Out of Use offers a model of sustainability in action.
