Who steers what at Flanders Circular?
Hasselt-based Flagbag creates various accessories from recycled flags. A sewing machine is used to turn old flags into a varied range of useful objects. The company applies itself to waste-prevention: scrapped flags and pennants that would otherwise end up as part of the massive accumulation of waste are given a new life, thanks to Flagbag.
‘Think globally, act locally!’ The distance that a Flagbag travels from raw materials to finished product is limited, particularly compared with similar product you might buy elsewhere. The flags are from Hasselt and are processed by local workers at a local workshop. Other items such as zips, lining and handles are recovered, as much as possible, from old textiles, or bought from local traders.
A bit of a bonus: flag fabric is made of 100% indestructible polyester.
Update: this project has ended.
