READY2REUSE - "SECOND-HAND IS FIRST-CLASS"

Life extension also has its place in car repair and maintenance. New parts require more and more raw materials to be mined, which then have to be transported and disappear into landfills at the end of their useful life. The 'Circular-Repair - Ready2Reuse' project investigates how the reuse of used car parts can be given more attention and applied more often.

Febelauto, as the managing body, is responsible for the collection, treatment and recycling of end-of-life vehicles and batteries from electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. To make the car sector more circular, Febelauto is investigating, together with DATOS nv (Cardoen), Dejonghe Recuparts and Autohandel Didier, how to stimulate the reuse of used car parts and better position them in the market.

After all, extending the life of a car part reduces the car's footprint. Therefore, it is envisaged that in the future, cars can be repaired using second-hand parts as much as possible, provided the quality of the vehicle repair is maintained. This will ensure that the materials footprint is reduced and less energy is needed to produce new parts. Moreover, the latter also ensures that CO2 emissions are reduced as less mining and transportation is required. The dismantling of parts can also create more jobs, benefiting social employment - "Second-hand is first-class"
