The Circular Road

New road using materials from an old one

Under this pioneering project, Wegenbouw De Brabandere is replacing a farm road with a new road using 100% recycled materials.

The innovation here is that no waste will be generated because the materials released when demolishing the rural road, such as concrete, raft and soil, will be fully reused at the site. The concrete to be poured will be made for 50% from recycled concrete from the old road. The business works in a 100% circular manner and also keeps the use of natural raw materials to a minimum. An extra bonus is that the road network will be relieved and less CO2 will be produced.

The Circular Road can serve as an example for future generations. This small project could lead to huge changes.

Het Nieuwsblad: This city is the first in Flanders to have a fully recycled road surface.
