Breadcrumb
Policies at local, Flemish, federal and European level currently offer many opportunities, but at least as many obstacles for those who want to build a circular economy in Flanders.
Within the strategic lever Policy instruments, we focus on a supporting and stimulating policy climate. To accelerate the circular economy, we focus on removing obstacles and leveraging policy tools such as regulations, grants, levies and product standards.
Bridging role
The strategic lever Policy Instruments is led by denuo and Team Circular Flanders and plays an important bridging role. For example, we actively coordinate with all relevant authorities, as well as with a broad group of stakeholders from the private and public sectors.
Within this strategic lever, we involve people from the social pentagon to identify and resolve policy obstacles and levers through legal research assignments.
We also rely on the work of the various strategic agendas and look at where we can work across sectors.
Monitoring circular progress
Monitoring circular progress
The CE Monitor provides insight into the progress toward a circular economy. This tool collects data on material flows and helps policymakers and companies make targeted changes.
Measuring resource consumption and setting clear goals are crucial to realising the circular ambitions of Flanders.
Want to know more about the CE Monitor? The Circular Economy Monitor Flanders takes stock of the circular economy in Flanders based on analyses and more than 100 indicators.
Strengthen local initiatives
Strengthen local initiatives
Local policy plays a key role in strengthening circular economies. Circular Flanders helps local governments create circular ecosystems.
This includes collaboration between municipalities, supported employment companies, materials banks and local circular hubs. In this way, infrastructure is developed that facilitates circular processes and strengthens local resilience.
Do you want to actively work towards a circular economy, just like 60% of cities and municipalities?
Ports as circular hubs
Ports as circular hubs
The circular economy is not possible without logistics hubs such as ports. Circular Flanders supports ports and port companies in the transition to circular practices, so that they can play a key role in the circular value chain.
Public procurement
By including circular requirements in public tenders, public procurement becomes a lever to accelerate the circular economy. The resulting rising demand for circular products is not only driving market changes. It also encourages companies to offer more sustainable products and services.
