Breadcrumb
Vehicles have a significant impact on the environment, both through emissions and through production of fuel and the vehicles themselves. Electric, natural gas and hydrogen vehicles improve air quality, reduce CO2 emissions and make less noise.
The auto industry accounts for 10 percent of industrial emissions. Logically, sustainability is essential to meet climate goals. Electrification is important, but not the only way. By thinking circularly (sharing, smart loading, refurbishing, reusing and recycling) you can reduce environmental impact as well as costs.
Circulaire strategieën
Leasing and part programs: consider leasing or part systems for vehicles. This will maximize their use and reduce the need for new cars. Provide a good reservation and monitoring system. Also consider public transportation and training in fuel-efficient driving.Regular maintenance
: proper maintenance extends the lifespan. Choose electric driving for less impact during use. Discarded batteries can be given a second life.Reuse
: take responsibility for what happens after use. Are old cars that no longer meet low-emission zone standards being resold? Then emissions remain a problem. A better choice is to reuse parts and recycle materials. When leasing, ask what happens to vehicles or parts such as tires after the lease term.
Reusable and remanufactured parts: vehicles with reusable and remanufactured parts reduce the need for new parts from non-renewable raw materials.Remanufacturing
: consider vehicles built on the remanufacturing principle. This involves refurbishing used parts until they are in almost new condition. This saves both waste and new raw materials.Recycled
materials: go for vehicles that incorporate recycled materials to reduce dependence on virgin raw materials.
Modular designs: choose vehicles with modular construction so that specific parts are easily replaceable. This extends the service life and reduces new production.
Increase warranties: by contractually requiring longer warranties for used vehicles and parts, you stimulate the used market and improve quality.Repairability
: choose designs that make repair easy. For example, screws and bolts instead of welding or gluing shut.
design: especially for batteries, standardization offers great advantages. If batteries have uniform dimensions and specifications, they can be used more widely.
agreements take-back and reuse: require in your contract that the supplier take back vehicles at the end of their useful life. This is how you make sure they are disposed of responsibly. Such a take-back obligation encourages suppliers to invest in better methods of reuse, recycling and waste reduction.
