TripleW settles into NextGen Demo innovation hub

TripleW developed an industrial process to produce lactic acid made entirely from food waste. The foreign company chose the NextGen Demo innovation hub to test and industrialize their circular project on a large scale.

The NextGen Demo innovation hub, part of the NextGen District in the Port of Antwerp, aims to be a hotspot for circular economy. It gives sustainable innovations in the field of resource and energy transition space to test before commercializing them.

TripleW, a foreign investor, is setting up shop at NextGen Demo. They developed an industrial process to produce lactic acid made entirely from food waste. Think baked goods, dairy products, snacks, packaged meals, and fruits and vegetables.

The high-quality lactic acid serves as a raw material for biodegradable plastics and biochemicals. Moisturizing creams can be produced from cheese processing waste and fabric softeners from rejected cookie dough thanks to that process.

Thanks to those circular production chains, factory waste is decarbonized, food waste is reduced and landfills are shrinking. It also reduces the financial burden associated with organic waste and creates more room for green jobs.
