Closing water and nutrient cycles at Stokstroom aquapark

Tomato Masters has been growing tomatoes of the highest quality since 1966. The neighbouring start-up Aqua4C cultivates omega perch, a sustainable Belgian fish with an exclusively vegetarian diet.

The companies embarked upon a unique partnership. Tomato Masters supplies electricity, heat and rainwater to the fishery and, in return, receives water from the fish. This water, which is full of nutrients, is used as food/water for the tomatoes. Savings are thus made on water and fertilisers, benefiting both the companies and the environment.
