Algae provide the foundation for a bio-based economy

Proviron is a Flemish company engaged in the chemical industry and is well known for its brake fluids and antifreeze products for the aviation industry. Integrated environmental awareness is a very important aspect of operational activities. In Proviron’s trial project with aquaculture, work is focussing on producing algae in closed and controlled conditions, at a price that is kept as low as possible. This is the ‘holy grail’ of algae production; scaling up production and radically reducing production costs. Only then will organic oils be able to compete with conventional products on a petrochemical basis.
