More sustainable use of materials in the construction industry

With the Living Lab Circular Concrete, Embuild Flanders, Buildwise and GroenBetonVert continue to jointly focus on circular concrete to bridge the gap between supply and demand. Causes for that gap are a lack of knowledge and confidence in solutions, too few scale-up opportunities and barriers around costs and certification. The Living Lab Circular Concrete builds on and combines the initiatives of Circular.Concrete, the Concrete Circularity Centre and the Flemish Concrete Agreement.

Society is increasingly aware of the issues of global warming and materials use in which the availability of construction sand in particular is problematic. Therefore, the partners of the Circular Concrete Living Lab want to investigate how the supply and demand of circular concrete can be aligned.

In doing so, the Living Lab Circular Concrete is focusing on collective instruments, concrete try-outs in pilot projects and strengthening the ecosystem with a view to large-scale application of circular concrete in practice. The Living Lab Circular Concrete runs until 2025 and cooperates with partners such as Fedbeton, VITO, VSOR, Be-Cert, COPRO, Colruyt Group, Facilitair Bedrijf, POM West-Vlaanderen, Strabag Belgium and ResourceFull. Stakeholders are kept informed of activities and interim results at regular intervals.
