What is a circular food chain?

The food system is under environmental, economic and societal pressure. To be able to feed 10 billion people by 2050, we need to radically overhaul our food system. And here's why:

  • The environmental and climate impact of our food is too high.

  • Our diet is not balanced enough.

  • Farm incomes are under pressure.

  • The connection between consumer and producer has largely disappeared.

A circular food chain offers a solution by making the best use of scarce raw materials, ingredients and products and avoiding waste as much as possible.

Only then will we ensure sufficient, safe and healthy food for all. Within the planet's limits, and respect for people and animals.

Strategic Agenda Food Chain

The strategic agenda 'food chain' is a partnership within Circular Flanders, with the Agency for Agriculture and Fisheries and Fevia Flanders as public and private initiators. They receive support in this regard from Circular Flanders.

This three-institution core team is backed up by relevant players from industry, government, the knowledge community and social profit, united in the Circular Food Chain Task Force

And it doesn't stop there: to implement the strategic agenda, the partnership counts on a broad group of companies, governments, knowledge institutions, civil society and other organisations. They make a contribution to the ambitions of the strategic agenda, with concrete actions.
