About this project
Strategic Agendas
Studio MOORE develops multifunctional and modular furniture that grows with children. With the pilot project PLAAY, the design studio combines multiple functions in a single piece of furniture, which can evolve from a crib into a play bench, table, or small desk. Through open-ended designs, interchangeable components, and a focus on repair and personalization, Studio MOORE extends the lifespan of children's furniture and reduces material consumption.
Multifunctional Furniture That Grows With Creative Parents and Kids
Studio MOORE develops multifunctional and modular furniture that grows alongside children. Growing children need many different types of furniture within a short period of time. With their pilot project PLAAY, the design studio introduces a piece of furniture based on three functions: a crib that can evolve into a play bench with a table or a small desk. Three pieces of furniture for the price of one is not only an ecological advantage, but also an economic saving for the customer. It creates more time, space, and creativity for both parents and children.
The designs are made as open-ended as possible so that parents and children can freely use their creativity and gradually develop new functions. In this way, the furniture can continue to evolve according to specific needs and be used for a longer period of time. In addition, all parts can be exchanged for repair and personalization purposes.
MOORE with less…
To create different functions over time, durable materials and furniture fittings are essential. The material must also remain stable so parents can easily assemble, disassemble, and transform the furniture. That is why Studio MOORE chooses to work with plywood, which they consider the best combination of strength, affordability, and aesthetics. The furniture is produced in Europe, shortening the logistics chain without compromising economic feasibility.
…but MOORE is more
Currently, Studio MOORE is exploring collaborations with second-hand stores and how these organizations could support the furniture through services such as repairs, personalization, or replacing components. Through their playful approach, the furniture stimulates creativity and demonstrates that doing more with less can actually be enjoyable.
For Studio MOORE, one thing is clear: designers have a responsibility to take on. Their greatest challenge is not simply designing whatever they want, but rather investigating what customers truly need and providing solutions for those needs. In the case of Studio MOORE, not only the product design itself, but especially the after-sales services, are already helping to reshape the furniture market.
