Milcobel

From milk to more

Milcobel is the largest dairy cooperative in Belgium. The company represents 1,500 Belgian dairy farmers, who are co-shareholders of the cooperative. The milk they supply is processed into tasty cheese, butter, ice cream, cream, milk powder and milk drinks. They also get to work with the side stream: the whey generated in the production of mozzarella is made into baby and sports food, among other things. From milk to more!

1.3 billion liters of milk a year. That's how much milk the Belgian dairy cooperative Milcobel processes into consumer cheese, ice cream and dairy products such as butter, milk powder and mozzarella. This is done in the 7 state-of-the-art factories in Belgium and France, according to strict quality standards. And that for customers in more than 100 countries worldwide.

Not only the milk itself, but also the by-products generated in the production of mozzarella are used. The concentrated protein released from the whey is processed into sports food, baby food and medicinal food in cooperation with Arla Food Ingredients. In addition, all production sites have their own water treatment plant that revalues used water to drinking water quality so that it can be used to clean equipment. The Langemark site also runs its own heat network: the residual heat from the CHP installation is used to heat the water for the production process.

As a cooperative, Milcobel connects about 1,500 family dairy farms, which supply quality, delicious milk driven by the passion for their profession. They are also shareholders in the cooperative and therefore have a say in the company's course. According to Milcobel, doing business together locally offers a handhold for future generations and ensures a strong value chain, from farmer to store.
