In Zoersel stands De Loemmert: a covered outdoor space for local residents and associations to play sports, games and meet. The 150 m2 pavilion is made of reusable, sustainable materials.
Sustainable design
De Loemmert is designed to be relocatable. The modular wooden construction and precast concrete foundation are both reusable, allowing the pavilion to have a second or even third life. The structure and the sports equipment inside it are made of local wood, which reduces the ecological footprint.
Connected to nature
In addition, the space is cleverly integrated into the natural environment. Green facades and a green roof increase biodiversity and contribute to a more pleasant, natural environment. In November 2024, De Loemmert won the Matexi Award for the most greening initiative.
A project by and for the neighborhood
This project came about through a highly participatory process: local residents contributed ideas about the design, use and name. They were allowed to offer their own trees and could help process them into columns and beams during workshops. Pupils of the Zoersel schools made nesting places with the leftover wood.
