Wake up, Shake up, Start up!

Flemish youngsters from the third grade at secondary school are coming up with ideas for a more sustainable textiles sector.

GoodPlanet Belgium, Junior Argonauts, Kringwinkel Antwerpen, Unizo, VUB students and the EcoHuis from the City of Antwerp are all throwing their weight behind this project.

At the kick-off, all 987 schools in Flanders were sent a link to a documentary about the polluting textiles sector. They were then invited to sign up to a project focussing on circular business practices. Pupils from the 25 participating classes first paid a visit to the textile-processing department at Kringwinkel. They then brainstormed about possible solutions for residual flows in the textiles sector at a GoodPlanet workshop on circular fashion and textiles. The pupils then work in groups on their own business plans, led by Junior Argonauts and Unizo. They choose their own focus area: extracting materials/raw materials, developing components, offering services or adapting both new and existing products to the reallocation concept.

Finally, they present their designs to the public. The selected proposals win a coaching project; experts from Junior Argonauts guide the pupils through the development of their ideas and the creation of their own start-up companies.
