The Stroom project explores circular solutions and new participation formats for citizens. The aim is to accelerate the shift to a circular city.
The City of Mechelen, Sociaal Huis and Studio Dott have joined forces to turn the Battelsesteenweg site into a testing area, a kind of Urban Living Lab for the circular economy. This former industrial complex is owned by Het Sociaal Huis. Today, it houses social organisations and employment initiatives.
In the wider area, there are also companies that focus strongly on corporate social responsibility, such as ’t Atelier, Eneco and Bio-Planet. Moreover, the diversity in the neighbourhood is an asset to co-creation and allows people to discover the opportunities the circular economy offers both at home and in the neighbourhood.
